Name: Laura Fraser

Job Title: Trainee Quantity Surveyor

Department: Stobart Rail & Civils

Division: Rail

Before joining Stobart Rail & Civils as an administrator, Laura worked in the construction industry as a Project Coordinator for multi-utility company, Clancy Docwra Ltd. She parted ways with the Leeds based company to move to the Lake District with her partner Dave. Following this re-location, Laura worked a local pub for six months.

Laura soon progressed in her administration role and after just two months was promoted to Resource Manager. Following a three-month trial, Laura felt this position wasn’t suited to her skill set, so returned to being an administrator, also expressing an interest in taking on training to develop her career in a different direction. Laura is now a Trainee Quantity Surveyor and works a four-day week whilst attending Northumbria University in Newcastle studying a Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship course one day a week.

When offered the role of Trainee Quantity Surveyor, Laura and her partner Dave moved to Carlisle reducing her commute to five minutes. Having a role with clear progression and goals to work towards was a large part of Laura’s final decision to move and settle in Carlisle.

“It means a lot to me to work to my full potential and to feel challenged by my work. I feel immensely grateful and lucky to have been offered this opportunity. In three year’s time, I very much hope to be in year 3 of my 5-year part-time degree, hopefully still enjoying the work/study balance as much as I am now!”
