To continually improve on our existing health, safety and environmental performance, we aim to reinforce and support continuous improvement, through our award winning, Think Safety, Act Safely campaign.
The campaign acts as a constant reminder of the risks and hazards faced at work every day and how we can work to eliminate them.
We strive for
Zero Accidents Incidents Complaints Environmental Issues Health Issues
How will we achieve this?
We are committed to the highest standards of safety at all levels of the business, and we endeavour to achieve the vision by training and developing staff through our Behavioural Based Safety (BBS) courses and Step Up days, empowering employees and contractors to act safely and lead by example.
The BBS courses are interactive with the audience and designed to encourage participation from all attendees. From identifying their own personal values and why we come to work, to understanding the processes Stobart Rail & Civils has in place and gives an insight into and the tools to create a safer and healthier workplace.
We believe in open and honest communications between all parties, to learn and share from any shortcomings and actively promote and encourage the reporting of close calls to identify trends to prevent accidents and incidents from occurring. All staff are empowered to stop work when something is not right or has changed from the planned activities through our Worksafe procedure.
We have in place a fully integrated business system which includes certification to ISO9001:2015 Quality, ISO14001:2015 Environment and ISO45001:2018 Health and Safety. In addition, we are RISQS verified and audited, hold a Network Rail Principal Contractor License and are On Track Plant Operations Scheme approved.
Our HSQE department has a dedicated team of experienced and trained individuals whose skills complement each other, providing compliance assurance for the Company. The team includes Health and Safety professionals who are Members of IOSH, qualified Lead Auditors, Internal Auditors and Technical Documents Controllers.

It is great to see how Stobart Rail & Civils are looking ahead at safety improvements to benefit the rail industry in CP6
Joshua ScottWorks Delivery Manager for LNW who attended one of our BBS sessions
I found the course very refreshing, good to see a positive safety culture through all levels of Stobart Rail & Civils from APM to CEOs. Group activities worked well, ensuring all were involved. It was good to see different people views on safety and I feel all who attended the BBS course now have a good appreciation of not only CDM requirements but safety as a whole. If the course makes people stop for that extra moment to consider safety, then that alone would make this a success.
