Stobart Rail & Civils gear up for a busy CP6
“Preparing for CP6, embracing change to deliver the modern railway Britain needs” Mark Carne, former Chief Executive of Network Rail.
Stobart Rail & Civils, founded in 1993 is now a well-known brand and fully established Rail and Civil Engineering business. The start of a new control period always presents itself with a sense of ‘time for change’, and with that in mind, Stobart Rail & Civils are gearing up for a busy and challenging few years.
This starts with a new senior structure in the shape of Keith Robertson, Regional Manager (Scotland), Stephen Pinkney, Regional Director (Scotland & North England) and Andy Lucas, Engineering Director (South England).
Keith brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Stobart Rail & Civils, having held senior positions on various rail projects and managing complex and multi-disciplinary schemes. Keith was the MAFA Framework Manager (excluding Edinburgh Waverley Capacity Enhancement), managing all aspects of customer support, tendering, commercial and operational delivery. He has also worked with Network Rail’s Project Management team, RAMs and Sponsors to develop and deliver projects.
When asked what his initial thoughts were on the business, Keith said:
I am pleased to join the Stobart Rail & Civils team. I am looking forward to the challenges ahead for us in CP6 to deliver projects for our clients on time, on budget and to a high quality. I have been impressed with the level of teamwork demonstrated in my initial few weeks as well as the general can-do attitude that is at the forefront of the team’s approach to project delivery. I believe we can make a real difference in delivering Network Rail’s work bank and that we can offer real value and a high level of customer focus for our clients
Keith will ensure we have the right resources within the business to successfully complete the current contracts and will be instrumental in forming and managing the new business unit covering Scotland for CP6.
Stephen has joined the business with 19 years of experience working with Network Rail under his belt and has delivered some of its key projects such as, Kings Cross re-modelling programme, Huddersfield to Bradford re-signalling, Thames Link resilience programme, LNE OHL resilience programme, S&C refurbishment programme, and Transpire diversionary resilience programme.
Stephen specialises in programme leadership and innovative management, which will be projected throughout his role within Stobart Rail & as Regional Director. In addition to providing support for Keith in Scotland, he will also be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of the five-year plan throughout North and Central England. He is delighted to be joining Stobart Rail & Civils and comments on what the future holds.
the business transformation I will be involved in will help provide the regional structure to support the shared CP6 vision of Network Rail and other key clients. I am excited, very determined and will attempt to inject pace and energy to the current structure whilst forming diverse cross-discipline relationships with our customers and key stakeholders. Stobart Rail & Civils is empowered by challenges and actively promotes innovative ways of working, provides clear expectations, and monitors performance closely. Couple all that with quality work and efficient cost control, the results will be very rewarding for the team. I am really excited to be part of a company that matches my ambition for the future.
Being a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Andy brings an abundance of knowledge of the rail and civil engineering industry, having 20 years of experience in asset management, track engineering, vehicle dynamics, design preparation and review. He has worked on schemes such as, KEB long timber renewals, Ferryhill S&C renewal, ECML linespeed improvements, the design, trial and introduction of track friction modification systems, Saltburn S&C re-modelling, Stockton cut renewal, Connington Headspan to portal conversions (first project of its kind), and NCL tunnel system cleaning project.
Andy presents a sense of strong leadership throughout the business with safety at the core of everything he delivers. He shares the responsibility of delivering Stobart Rail & Civils five-year strategic plan for the whole of the UK and is open and enthusiastic about joining the team,
I genuinely couldn’t be more excited about working with the Stobart Rail & Civils team. I feel I have joined at a really exciting time for the company and industry as a whole, with endless opportunity to grow sustainably, and deliver some incredibly important projects for our clients and stakeholders. Our five-year strategic plan, sees some fantastic achievements come to fruition and being part of something so critical, is a genuinely inspirational place to be.
